  2. Take advantage of free UITS training.
  3. Check your university email regularly — it’s official.
  4. Follow the legal download recommendations at filesharing.iu.edu.
  5. Download free virus and malware protection software from IUware Online and configure it to update daily.
  6. Update your operating system and software regularly, and be sure to enable your firewall.
  7. Never share your passphrase, and remember to change it every six months.
  8. Build a custom list of UITS service notices using the ITNow 2.0 RSS feeds at itnotices.iu.edu.
  9. Create a new login so you can access your computer as a user without administrator privileges for everyday work.
  10. Always log out of public computers when through and lock them when you step away temporarily.
